Kitchen Remodel

Home Healer

1004 31st Street, Des Moines

This is a full kitchen remodel.  To achieve the appropriate look and quality, it was necessary to take the entire kitchen back to the framing.  Cabinets were 1950s built-ins and the layout left little working counter space and functionality.  Upon removal of cabinets and walls, it was discovered that a back wall needed reframing, an old water line to the second floor needed to be relocated and the walls insulated.  In the process it was also discovered that there had been six layers (equaling 1.5 inches) of flooring dating back to 1912 when the home was built.  So, effectively, the kitchen was taken back to the original framing of floors and walls in order to rebuild and upgrade by also adding a new energy-efficient window over the sink and addng a new exterior door and storm door for access to a new deck and back yard.
